Thunderbird Project

Few years back, some of us participated in the community project to create an art installation for the newly built Wabano Center for Aboriginal Health in Ottawa.

We enrolled upon some prompting from Ljlljana and we enjoyed it immensely. During the project itself, and even after it was finished and installation displayed, we did not delve deeper or appreciate fully its depth and impact… It was only few years later, during a lonely pandemic winter, that reminiscence brought it back and unexpectedly synthesized the full vision and story behind it…it was so revealing that we felt compelled to tell it in our own way.

This project embeds intricate interactions of culture, history, arts and community engagement. It is a story of Northern Enlightenment.

We shared this presentation with the lead artist of the project, Ottawa sculptor Maria Saracino…and we were so warmly rewarded with her acceptance of this small gift!  Please visit Maria’s site at  Maria Saracino | MariaSaracino’s Blog to hear it in her own words (and you can watch this video at her site as well).
