Paper Neurons

Collage

Paper Games are becoming paper concepts, focusing on the BrainArt 2023 exhibition installation. The theme of the exhibit is ‘The Multifaceted Brain’, with three subthemes addressing diversity and adaptation: Adaptation and diversity across cultures, Diversity of human sexuality, and Neurodiversity.

These are complex themes that call for unusual ways.

We will start by depicting neuronal diversity. Neurons are broadly grouped into sensory, motor and interneurons. Yet, if you re-visit, if only briefly, our tribute to Ramon y Cajal in Synapses, it will become glaringly obvious that every neuron is unique – in the way it projects its processes, arborizes into trees of infinite connections. Incredible diversity and specialization…as needed to store a lifetime of memories.

We aim to depict this neuronal diversity underlying multitudes of our personas in layered colors and shapes, connections among neuronal bundles and processes. They will merge into collaged brains, colorful and unique, mathematical and artistic. Each created from uniquely designed rice paper monoprints. Emerging from neuronal bundles, here they are, our beautiful, multifaceted brains.
