The Heart of a House

Our houses have become a center of attention and contemplation – bound to them during pandemic lockdowns, we came to both love and hate them – homes that protect and prisons at the same time. Our inner freedoms and our face to (or against) the outside world.

Houses seen from outside often have a face. It is intangible, sort of ‘aura’ that surrounds some of them – we could almost imagine a family that occupies the house. Is it doors, or windows, or something else?

Snapping photos on our travels, we often zero in on doors, entrances, courtyards – as if we can capture the ‘essence’ of a dwelling and of local culture through these views.

Here are some travel-inspired musings about the soul and the heart of a house.
