Polymer Clay Jewelry

The exhilaration of jewelry making was lost on me for most of my life…precious stones and diamonds could not have been further away from my intellectual preoccupations. Even my paintings were all serious and ‘brainy’ – as if joy of creating art was overshadowed by tediousness of complicated symbolism and philosophy.

Then, last year, polymer clay came into our workshop with all the colorful design possibilities to create jewelry and small objects, personalized, standing out! I have never stopped making, wearing and gifting this jewelry since. Nor have I stopped thinking of and yearning to attempt different designs despite limited skills. Not overly concerned about perfection, rather a satisfaction seeing an unique piece emerging from the experiment, even if used for just a single occasion.

Don’t take me wrong, I haven’t stopped making my tedious conceptual paintings (on the contrary) – they just come out with more joy of heart. And here I am, rejoicing in artistic profusion in my mature age, triggered by a lightness and immediacy of abstract expression, of new media that I attempt without hesitation. Study and perfecting the technique is still a hard work, not without frustration, but anything that emerges is filled with joy…

Here is my fall jewelry binge, getting ready for a season of gifting and charities.
