Project ‘Orange’

Multimedia art in orange

Orange has a ‘different’ energy.  Mix of Mexican sun and Canadian fall.

On a color wheel, blue is its complement; green and purple it’s partners.  We tried it already in Connections project, and some found it an ‘uncomfortable’ color – maybe because it was imposed?

We were overwhelmed with orange this fall season; the exuberance exploding after just a couple of cold nights.  There was a blue sky and green of evergreens, and, surprisingly, magenta, burgundy and purple of leaves. Harmonious with orange, effortlessly.

We are attacking ‘orange’! Snapshots of its appearance in fall landscapes, in city streets, fruits, on doors and outfits.  Orange is new …what?  Orange galleries, rush to exhibits and talk to artists.   We are NOT Halloween orange and black – we are orange garden…maybe; or simply – orange art?

What is the identity of orange for us? Can we find it by embarking on a random experiment? Can we think it through? Orange is not blue(s), which we explored last year – calm and contemplative…It is frustrating, glaring, a challenge! What do we do with this color?

Color psychology (must be something in it, although I dont take it very seriously) identifies orange as extrovert, energy-filled, bright, positive, vibrant emotion color. Our ‘themes’ are emerging – nature, emotions, figures, objects – all in orange…

And just as I was writing this conflicting introduction into our next project, Benjamin Moore announced their ‘color of the year’ 2023 – and it looks like this!

Well, let’s admit it – orange is new …HOT!

We are fired up by orange- let’s see where it will take us.  Let’s build our orange art wall; all media we can come up with; 3D allowed and expected with curiosity.
