Back to the future

Future is utterly unpredictable.

We like to think that, in not so distant future, the sucesses of unconventional female art icons like Marina Abramovic or Yayoi Kusama will continue changing the perception and place of women in arts.

Yet, we are suddenly overtaken by the advent of artificial intelligence. As we dismiss it lightly as ‘pre-programmed’ robots that will never be able to emulate human creativity, the story of Ai-DA makes us wrong….or at least somewhat concerned.

Ai-DA is a female (looking) artificial intelligence robot that paints, holds exhibitions in prestigious galleries and conducts dinner-table conversations about the nature of creativity (Ai-Da (ai-darobot.com).

Hasta la Vista, Baby!

We are (or pretend to be) open-minded. After all, art has no boundaries – definitions have failed to capture its ever-changing nature. Yet, every atom of our human ‘being’ rebels against the notion that a robot can capture the essence of the art. Dana rushes to launch her challenge to AI folks (many of whom are also good friends) in a form of a short retort ‘Who am I’ (later submitted to Brain-Art).

After much discussions and despite unsettled scores between artists and AI, we graciously decide to keep Ai-Da in our ‘collection’ of notable women artists. Maybe not ‘Close to heart’, but worth keeping an eye on…
