Silk scarf designs
This story is about relationships, actually. It is a story that emerged utterly unexpectedly from a foundation of geometry. That is, a branch of mathematics concerned with properties of space such as the distance, shape, size, and relative position of figures… placed onto a silky, wiggly fabric (of love).
The activity at hand was silk scarf alcohol ink designs using basic geometric shapes. Squares, triangles, circles. Far from boring, as you might have predicted from these mathematical elements used. Adding colors, arrangements, textures… and we ended up telling a tumultuous story of relationships from falling in love to attractions of opposites, boundaries, triangles. But, despite the turmoil, the foundational elements of this story, our scarfs, are beautiful and lively, playful and elegant, and longing. Stunning when wrinkled, strong, and vulnerable simultaneously, gentle and pliable.
I often peel off the layers and search beyond the surface. It is my nature and, often, the nature of my relationships. Who would have thought that the precise mathematics of geometry could bring out all this non ‘quadrable’, unpredictable emotional swirl?
