Drawings, zentangle
Whatever you may have expected, this gallery show is exactly what the title says.
Doodles, spontaneous, organic, bringing out intricate and deeply ingrained connections with the natural world, intertwined, mysterious, where everything is linked and interdependent. Creatures emerging discretely from the growth of twines and mushrooms, tangles of grass and twigs – creatures magical or mythical, dwarfs and villains, dances of woods and marches.
Yet, there is another purpose of this tango – an experiment, a curiosity more than the purpose. These drawings are rendered in either white or black backgrounds – day and night cycle of nature. The same image in nocturnal shades vs. nurturing daily light. Which one is more appealing? Esthetically or emotionally? We call them positives and negatives – are they indeed? Is the preference for white or dark background inherent to our brain’s inclination to optimism or pessimism, our biorhythm? Can personal esthetics be determined by our melatonin levels?
Well, we are not aiming, truly, to answer these questions, although they inevitably spring up – after all, this is just a funky doodle summer tango@leftbrainarists.
