A monoprint assembly
Can a monochromatic ‘pallete’ replace the expressive and emotional impacts of colored paintings? I automatically reach for paint tubes, rarely thinking of ‘other ways’, my inner impulse. Yet, I stand in owe before Natasha’s and Hung’s black and white photos, moved, drawn in, mesmerized…
I am who I am, have to listen to my artistic impulses, and channel them at the same time – guess that ‘channeling’ is what makes the artist recognizable.
Here is an experiment: my visceral attraction to human faces and stories, channeled into a monochrome – one visual dimension taken away, in the service of the clarity of story-telling.
A crowd – faces gathered, snapshots of life experiences, emotional states, scars, personality traits, moments of vulnerability and strength…all my own and all universal.
Well, despite my determined intentions, red was unavoidable!
