Transparent

Alcohol inks and mixed media

Workshop, Oct 2nd

They come in tiny bottles and have vibrant colors. Need alcohol (as we all do from time to time) to make magic. Flow, blend, blow, more alcohol, touch of brush, little tap with paper towel- and the amazing abstract art emerges. For me, the most fascinating feature of alcohol inks is their transparency – colors blend creating soft tones that emerge under each other, like a veil that reveals layers of blurred, insinuating shapes.

We embraced alcohol inks in our early fall workshop. Days shorter, chill in the air, cheerfull fire going in the outdoor fireplace. Colors of fall and summer mixing, blown vigorusly over Yupo paper revealing images that elicit spontaneous admirations…

Although our techniques were similar, tiny inks were revealing, subtly and inevitably, behind a thin veil of transparent colors, our individual sensibilities – we ourselves became transparent. Hung was subtle and organic, Marina – a drama of opposites, Ljljana unexpected, Sanda a creative world without boundaries…

Alcohol ink paintings, like their containers, are rather small and precious, as they are light sensitive. Luckily, technology brought us a miracle of giclee fine art prints – digitalized originals printed on huge ink printers – transforming these delicate small pieces into a jaw-dropping art on a large scale.

For this catalogue, we chose to display our alcohol ink paintings in virtual rooms (mostly) at a ‘grand’ scale. Abstract art is versatile, easy fit into various interior designs, embracing moods of the environment and so comfortable with modern technology.
